Circle K Opens Its Largest Charging Hub in the World in Oslo

Norway / Electric mobility

Omexom in Norway has contributed to Circle K’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging hub globally, located at Furuset in Oslo. This new site sets a global benchmark for EV infrastructure and reinforces Oslo’s position as a leader in sustainable transportation.

The Circle K Furuset station now features 28 ultra-fast charging points, delivering power from 150 kW up to 400 kW, making it the biggest Circle K charging hub worldwide by number of chargers. The upgrade combines new Kempower chargers with existing Alpitronic units, ensuring fast and reliable charging for all types of electric vehicles.

Omexom’s Role

In March this year, Omexom in Norway began work on Circle K’s Furuset charging site under a long-term framework agreement. The team managed planning, 3D modeling, and detailed engineering, delivering technical documentation for groundwork contractors and supervising installation.

The site, commissioned in 2019, originally featured six 150kW ABB chargers and two 50kW Tritium units, supported by an 860-kW supply. In 2023, the capacity was upgraded to 1,600kW. Four chargers (two 150kW and two 50kW) were replaced with 150kW Alpitronic models, and four additional 300kW Alpitronic chargers were installed, expanding the site to sixteen spaces. The project also included replacing the remaining four ABB units and adding twelve new Kempower chargers, all powered by the 1,600kW grid connection.

This latest phase represents Omexom’s second major upgrade at Furuset, following the original installation in 2019 and the expansion in 2023.

Driving Oslo’s EV Future

Oslo maintains its place as the world’s EV capital thanks to zero-emission taxi requirements and investment in electrifying vans and heavy transport. Circle K’s rapid expansion reinforces the growing demand for commercial EV charging infrastructure.

Håkon Fogderud, Project Manager at Omexom in Norway, said, “It’s truly rewarding to be part of this journey. E-mobility is rapidly advancing with new technologies and innovative solutions, and I’m proud to contribute to Circle K’s ongoing expansion of Norway’s charging network. The scale of their nationwide effort is impressive, and we’re grateful to play a role in it.”

With 28 ultra-fast chargers now in operation, Circle K Furuset stands as a benchmark for EV charging hubs worldwide. This achievement is the result of a strong partnership between Circle K and Omexom, united by a shared vision to accelerate the transition toward future-ready charging infrastructure.
