a project defined by complex outages management, driven by a series of unique and varied challenges, and above all, carried by a collaborative spirit that united diverse personalities and nationalities.
Présentation :
Together, the teams are building 216 new transmission towers, installing 66km of double-circuit 400–kV and 110–kV overhead lines, and dismantling 51 km of aging infrastructure, which involves removing 223 towers. Most of the towers are guyed tubular towers and rest of the towers are lattice self-supporting ones.
From Design to Integration: Advancing Finland’s High-Voltage Grid Upgrade
Major milestones including design, procurement, foundation work, assembly, erection and stringing have been successfully completed. The project has now been completed and energized according to plan.
As Omexom’s first 400-kV project in Finland, the project demanded specific designs, unique technical specs, and new guyed tubular tower types for both 400-kV and 110-kV lines.
Charles Cocuelle, Project Manager at Omexom in France and currently based in Finland for the duration of the project, reflected on the experience:
Diversity, Inclusion, and Environmental Commitment in Action
The Järvilinja 1 project, featuring a diverse international workforce and delivered by an integrated team, requires close coordination across different cultures and working styles. The team communicates in Spanish, English, French and Finnish, underscoring the project’s multicultural nature.
The involvement of workers from four continents introduced logistical and administrative challenges, particularly with documentation, training, and site integration, but these were well managed by Omexom in Finland.
The project has also pioneered a unique HR approach by hiring and relocating a full African team to Finland, showcasing an inclusive and forward-thinking workforce strategy.
One key highlight of the project is the strong commitment to environmental sustainability. All Omexom vehicles on the project run on renewable diesel. This initiative has been well received and appreciated by Fingrid.
Located in remote, swampy terrain near Vuolijoki, where winter construction on frozen ground was essential, the teams successfully delivered the Järvilinja 1 transmission project despite challenging conditions. Now completed and energized, the project serves as an exemplary model of Omexom’s end-to-end EPC service delivery.
