Présentation :
Against this backdrop, TenneT, the Dutch transmission system operator, awarded Omexom a contract to deliver the new Rozenburg-Zuid 150 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation near Schiphol Airport. The substation has since been completed and officially inaugurated, an occasion marked by TenneT, Liander, and the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer. Expanding the local high-voltage network, the project creates additional grid capacity in one of the country’s most important economic hubs.
Building critical infrastructure for the energy transition
As the main contractor, Omexom was responsible for delivering the installation to TenneT, bringing together multiple technical disciplines and project partners.
The new station is capable of accommodating sixteen large connections; it has a direct link to Schiphol Airport and also includes a connection from the regional grid operator Liander, which in turn provides the station with extra space to offer customers new or more powerful connections. The installation is located in two substation halls and contains thirty switchgear bays, fifteen in each hall.

Planning in time and space
In order to keep control over the numerous parallel workstreams, the project team employed 4D planning; this method not only indicated when the work would take place but also showed where in the building each contractor would be working.
Two tasks might look fine side by side on a standard schedule, for example, even though both crews needed the same corridor or access point for people and materials. By mapping the work on a floor plan, the delivery team could see and manage that overlap before it became a problem on site.
Omexom worked with several specialized partners: BAM Infra handled civil and structural work, Verkerk the building installations, and AAB the grounding. Omexom colleagues from the Czech Republic (GA Energo) also contributed, helping with cabling, installation, and connections. The Dutch delivery team directed their work within their respective work packages.
Supporting a more resilient power grid
The completion of Rozenburg-Zuid is an important milestone for the Dutch electricity network. By increasing transmission capacity in the region, it supports future growth and helps prepare the grid for the continued electrification of society. It won’t solve grid congestion on its own, but it adds real capacity where demand is high.
The experience gained on this complex project is already being applied to other large-scale infrastructure developments, reinforcing Omexom’s role as a trusted partner for the Dutch electricity network.
