Emborcaçao hydroelectric powerplant

In January 2018, Omexom in Belo Horizonte and CEMIG signed a contract for updating the 1,192 MW Emborcaçao hydroelectric power plant located on the River Paranaiba near the city of Araguari.

During 14 months, Omexom carried out the transitioning from the old to the new system while the plant was still in operation, generating as little impact as possible on energy production.

The scope of the modernization included the replacement of the entire Alternating Current Auxiliary Electrical System, in addition to some of the most important supplies for the plant’s key systems, such as the spillway, the ventilation for the step-up transformer, the generator operator control, the synchronization compensators and the refrigeration and adjustment of the generating unit protection system. More than 90 electrical panel racks have been supplied within the main scope.

Hydroelectricity is the cleanest and the most efficient of renewable energies. Thanks to the refurbishment of this hydro powerplant, Omexom is offering a lifetime extension as well as an optimization of the max power output.
